The Community Celebrated the Northeast Park with a Groundbreaking
October 16, 2024
Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency, Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee celebrated the groundbreaking of the Northeast Park project. Located adjacent to Roberts Elementary and Montford Middle School on Centerville Road. Construction of the park is slated to be completed by late 2026 and will introduce a new array of recreational opportunities to Northeast Tallahassee-Leon County, offering a mix of both active and passive amenities to the entire community.
The Park will include a diverse mix of active and passive recreational facilities designed to meet the community's needs. Planned amenities include two full-sized, lighted baseball/softball fields, one lighted multi-use field, four pickleball courts, a basketball court, three sand volleyball courts, walking trails, a playground, open green space, a restroom and community center, concession stand, and paved parking with electric vehicle charging stations. The completion of construction is anticipated for late 2026.
"With amenities like baseball fields, walking trails, pickleball courts, EV charging stations and more, this 50-acre park will offer something for everyone," said IA Board Chair and City of Tallahassee Commissioner Dianne Williams-Cox. "In addition to the City's 100 world-class parks, Tallahassee residents will soon have another incredible public space to enjoy, further enhancing our overall community's quality of life."
The Park's design was informed by a thorough needs assessment, which incorporated community feedback through surveys and interviews with residents and recreation experts. Results indicated a strong community desire for walking paths, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and facilities for team sports, all of which will be integrated into the Park.
"The Northeast Park will be a vital hub for team sports, recreation, and community events in Northeast Leon County and beyond," said IA Board Vice Chair and County Commission Vice Chair Brian Welch. "I'm proud we accelerated this project from its original 2035 start to today's groundbreaking, made possible by our community's steadfast support - thank you!"
"Community input was central to the Park's design, ensuring that it reflects the desires of local residents, from playgrounds and team sports facilities to picnic areas and walking paths," said Blueprint Director Autumn Calder.
The Northeast Park project represents a $12 million investment in the Tallahassee-Leon County community, offers valuable green space to promote a healthy community, and serves as a vital recreational asset for generations to come.
